June 14, 2025: Robin Wright on the cover of TV Magazine – Le Figaro
Robin Wright is on the cover of the French magazine Le Figaro TV Magazine.
In this exclusive interview, Robin Wright reflects on her four-decade-long career as she prepares to receive the Crystal Nymph Award at the 64th Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
She says: “It’s an honor to have been in this business for forty years. You feel blessed to have worked consistently, to have been selective. You’re recognized for those choices, for your body of work. And you think, “That’s incredible!” Once again, I’ve been very lucky to land the roles I’ve been offered and to work with such great directors. But also to be able to direct. I love working with other actors and seeing what they bring to a project.”
Robin Wright explains that she never aimed for fame, but rather for a long-lasting career. While she acknowledges that some might see her as a star, she doesn’t view herself that way.
She says: “It’s not so much about fame as it is about wanting to keep working. By seeking a certain consistency, you stay in the game. Some people can’t step outside without being bombarded with questions or followed by paparazzi. That’s never been the case for me. I don’t have that kind of relationship with fame. I’m not a big star. I live a normal life. People don’t recognize me on the street. Or if they do, they sometimes come up and compliment my work, and I just say, “Thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoyed it.”
Wright shares insights into her latest project, ‘The Girlfriend’, a psychological thriller for Prime Video, where she serves as producer, director and lead actress. Adapted from Michelle Frances’s novel, the series explores a tense emotional triangle between a mother, her son and his girlfriend.
She says: “I spent four years producing it, acting in it, and directing several episodes. I was also involved in the development and the writing. Doing all of that at once was a massive amount of work, but I loved it. Originally, I was only asked if I wanted to direct the series, and I said yes because I thought it would be fantastic to direct the amazing Olivia Cooke. Then they asked if I would also act in it, to help secure financing more quickly, and I agreed. But that wasn’t the initial plan.”
June 16, 2025: Robin Wright at Monte-Carlo Television Festival
Actress, director, and producer Robin Wright made a notable appearance at the 64th Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
Robin Wright joined a panel discussion called ‘EMBRACING CHALLENGES: Journey Thru the Lens of Two Women.’
The event featured a compelling conversation between Wright and producer Rola Bauer, moderated by Leo Barraclough of Variety.
This insightful conversation touched on Wright’s journey as a filmmaker, her experience fighting for equal pay on ‘House of Cards’, and her upcoming Amazon MGM Studios series ‘The Girlfriend’.
Wright revealed that, in 2012, director David Fincher foresaw the streaming revolution as ‘House of Cards’ came together. “He said: ‘You know, this is going to be our future. We’re going to launch streaming… and I think it’ll be revolutionary.’ And look at where we are today.”
However, she said she had to fight for equal pay on the hit show, which she co-led with Kevin Spacey.
“Yes, it was difficult. I am going to be honest,” Robin Wright said. “When I said, ‘I think it’s only fair because my character became as popular as [Spacey’s], they said: ‘We can’t pay you the same as an actor, so we will make you exec producer and you can direct. We will give you three different paychecks.’ I asked, ‘Why can’t you pay me as an actor?’ ‘Because you didn’t win an Academy Award.’
However, Wright said getting to direct the show was a ‘gift.’ “It was the camera operator on ‘House of Cards’ who said, ‘Why don’t you just try?’ she recalled. “I learned so much on that show. I didn’t feel any pressure. I was encouraged to do it.”
She also previewed ‘The Girlfriend’. Wright is exec-producing, directing and starring in the six-episode series, set to premiere in the fall on Prime Video.
Wright stars as Laura, a mother whose seemingly perfect life unravels when her son introduces a mysterious new girlfriend. The series, adapted from Michelle Frances’ novel, co-stars Olivia Cooke and Laurie Davidson.
“We all collaborated together to build this tension between two women who fight for this young man,” she said.
Robin Wright shared an exclusive clip of the show at the Festival. In it, she is chatting to her on-screen son in a sauna, and gently but firmly quizzing him about his new love interest.

The magic of film and television and how we get to storytelling is the most meaningful thing to me as an artist. The creativity and collaboration of everybody to bring all of you to a point of emotion, whatever that emotion is. For that reason, I am very honored to receive this award.”

June 26, 2025: Robin Wright featured in Gala France
Following her appearance at the Monte Carlo Festival, Robin Wright graces the pages of Gala magazine in a reflective and intimate profile.
The actress reveals that, for the past three years, she has sought refuge in the English countryside, a move she describes as both professional and deeply personal. “I left California for the UK for professional reasons. I’ve realized it’s good for the soul. It brings me peace and tranquility. I’ve found serenity. I love not being judged every minute. My life is calmer now; I feel like I’m finally taking time to exist, not just to have a career.”
Looking back on her career, Wright recalls the choices she made in the 1990s, when she turned down countless blockbuster offers to pursue smaller, independent films that spoke to her spirit. “I was very selective with my decisions. Back then, I prioritized my family life. I didn’t want to be an absent mother. I only worked during the summers. I wanted my work to fit my rhythm, not the other way around. Being an actress requires strength. When you’re young and going to auditions, they might call you four, five, even six times before you land a role—or don’t. You have to be able to endure rejection. And it’s better to have a foundation that supports you. For me, that foundation was my family.”
As Wright approaches her 60th birthday next year, she speaks candidly about aging in Hollywood. “It’s important to embrace every stage of life with joy. I want to age with a certain grace. I have no plans to get a facelift. Women like Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, and Julianne Moore are setting the standard in this respect, and I find myself even less obsessed with my image now that I spend so much time directing, behind the camera. I love directing so much that I could happily give up acting altogether.”
June 29, 2025: Robin Wright is on the cover of Sunday Express
Robin Wright is featured on the cover of the daily UK newspaper ‘Sunday Express’.
In this interview, she explains why she turned down so many big movies in the past. She said: “In my late 20s and early 30s I could have done back-to-back pieces, but I chose to be really selective. I was a full-time mom and I didn’t want to leave my kids during the school year, so I would only work in the summer. I would do one movie a year. But being selective helps because I feel like you can oversaturate the market with yourself when you’re in too many things.”
Also, she spoke about filming ‘The Girlfriend’ in London and Spain: “It was heaven to get out of gloomy London and be in Málaga, sunny Spain. But I love gloomy London, though. It’s a great city. There’s so much culture and there’s the museums and the restaurants and the architecture.”
July 3, 2025: Robin Wright in Paris Match
Robin Wright graces the pages of French magazine Paris Match, opening up about her work as a director, her decision to live in England, and the personal journey that has shaped her career.
Speaking about directing Olivia Cooke and Laurie Davidson for ‘The Girlfriend’, Wright is full of admiration. “They were incredible. Truly talented actors; they blew me away. They were like sponges. I’d give them a note, and they absorbed it instantly, performing the scene exactly as I asked. It was a joy to work with them.”
The actress-director also shares candidly why she has chosen to remain in the UK for the past three years. “I’ve lived and worked in England for the last three years. In my country there is absolute chaos. It’s devastating and very sad. There were also fires, and my closest friends and my sister lost their homes and all their belongings. The atmosphere there is depressing. My friends tell me not to go back. And very often they come to visit me to escape that nightmare.”
In a more personal revelation, Wright reflects on how self-doubt once limited her choices. “Years ago, I turned down many movies because I was afraid to take on certain roles because I told myself I wasn’t good enough for them. I didn’t have enough confidence in myself. But eventually I grew and I learned. It was like therapy. Now I dare to take on so much more.”

Wright said: “America is such a mess and we don’t know what’s going to happen with their administration. And I just want to get out from under that very dark.
