January 12, 2014: Robin Wright wins the Golden Globe

This year, Robin Wright made history because she became the first actress to win the Golden Globe Award for a streaming television series.

Wright won in the category of Best Leading Actress in a Series (Drama) for her role of Claire Underwood in ‘House of Cards’ Season 1.

The Netflix show also got nominations for Best Drama Series, Kevin Spacey and Corey Stoll, but Robin Wright was the only win for ‘House of Cards’.

Wright was nominated alongside Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Taylor Schilling (Orange is the new black) and Kerry Washington (Scandal).

This was Wright’s second Golden Globe nomination. She was previously nominated in 1995 for her role as Jenny in the film ‘Forrest Gump’.

‘House of Cards’ season 2 got 13 nominations including Drama Series, Kevin Spacey (Best Actor), Robin Wright (Best Actress), Kate Mara (Guest Actress), Red. E. Cathey (Guest Actor), Beau Willimon (Writing) and Carl Franklin (directing).

In the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series these were the nominees: Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex), Claire Danes (Homeland), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Kerry Washington (Scandal) and Robin Wright (House of Cards).

July 25, 2014: ‘A Most Wanted Man’ is released in theaters

On 25 July 2014, Robin Wright’s new movie, ‘A Most Wanted Man’, received a limited release in the United States, beginning with 361 theatres and later expanding wider with 801 theaters.

First-week box office totaled $2,687,227. Total receipts in USA were $17,237,855 and $36,233,517 worldwide.

The movie had very good reviews. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 86%. The site’s critical consensus reads, “Smart, subtle, and steadily absorbing, A Most Wanted Man proves once again that John le Carré books make for sharp, thoughtful thrillers”.
