Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 ‘Blade Runner’ will now be released worldwide on October 6, 2017. The film was initially set for a January 12, 2018 North American release.
Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Det. Rick Deckard. Ryan Gosling and Dave Bautista are confirmed to be joining the movie, along with Robin Wright.
The studio had been after Wright for some time, but her complicated ‘House of Cards’ schedule as actress, director and executive producer made it appear unlikely that she would be available. But Alcon Entertainment was able to work out schedule issues.
Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario) will direct from a script written by Hampton Fancher, co-writer of the original, and Michael Green. Ridley Scott will serve as Executive Producer.
Warner Bros will release the film in North America and Sony Pictures will handle international distribution.
‘Blade Runner’ is due to start shooting this July.
